Religious Festival Giving – Mauritian Marathi Society

How the Mauritian Marathi Society used text and web giving during a virtual Ganesh Chaturthi festival to raise donations from participants unable to attend in person.

The Mauritian Marathi Society leveraged DONATE's platform to fundraise during the Hindu festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, which celebrates Lord Ganesha and new beginnings. Due to pandemic restrictions, the festival operated at reduced capacity with a virtual component alongside the in-person event.

The Approach

The organisation selected DONATE for three key reasons:

  1. Integrated text and web giving - one platform for both channels
  2. Real-time reporting - immediate visibility of donations during the event
  3. Ease of use - simple enough for a small team to manage alongside the event itself

During the live stream broadcast of the festival, the team encouraged text donations and promoted giving methods across their website and social media channels, allowing community members who couldn't attend in person to still participate financially.

The Result

Amount raised: £189Average donation: £13.50

"We found the DONATE system to be very handy and were surprised we generated as much as we did. We will be using the system at future Hindu festivals to encourage those not present to also give."
