Northampton Saints: Signed Shirt Text Raffle
How the Northampton Saints Charitable Foundation raised £1,100 from a text raffle for a signed season shirt, testing digital fundraising with their 15,000-strong fanbase during closed-doors matches.
During the closure of sports clubs and schools, the Northampton Saints Charitable Foundation needed to find innovative fundraising approaches for their Premiership Rugby matches. With their typical crowd of 15,000 unable to attend, they needed a digital method for generating charitable income from a passionate but physically absent fanbase.
The Campaign
The Foundation chose a text raffle as the perfect format - simple, familiar, and ideally suited to an engaged sports audience.
The prize: A signed and framed 2019/20 season Saints shirt
Supporters texted the keyword SAINTS to donate £10 per entry. The raffle was promoted to the club's fanbase across social media channels.
The Result
Amount raised: £1,100
The campaign proved so successful that plans for a second text raffle were already underway before the results of the first were even finalised.
"We are really pleased with the way our first Text DONATE raffle has gone. So pleased in fact that we are already planning a second one!"
- Sue Wright, Northampton Saints Foundation
