Bournemouth Parks Foundation: Local Authority Fundraising

How Bournemouth Parks Foundation enabled residents and visitors to donate to parks and open spaces via text, QR codes, and web - helping a local authority charity replace reduced government funding.

In 2015, Bournemouth County Council transitioned its parks and open spaces to the newly established Bournemouth Parks Foundation. Due to reduced local government budgets, the organisation needed to develop strategies for encouraging public donations to support the Council's non-statutory services.

The Solution

DONATE™ partnered with Bournemouth Parks Foundation to enable residents and visitors to contribute to various initiatives including the local aviary, new benches, sculpture trail enhancements, and general community projects.

Multiple donation methods were deployed across recreational spaces:

  • Text messaging for simple on-the-go giving
  • Mobile web access via QR codes on signs throughout the parks
  • Direct web giving for visitors at home

The Result

The flexible integrated platform allowed a small charity to reach supporters wherever they were - whether walking through the parks or browsing at home.

"After a market consultation, we chose the DONATE™ service since it provided a flexible and integrated mobile giving platform and being a charity itself, fitted well with our objects. The DONATE™ team have always been on hand to support the integration providing both practical and technical advice."
