Point of sale
Every volunteer's phone, a donation point.
Our point of sale app turns a volunteer's phone into a donation point. Supporters tap a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay against the phone itself, and the donation lands in your fundraising reporting like any other.
Coming soon
The point of sale app is in final testing and is not yet available to download. Tell us where you would use it and we will come back to you as soon as it is released: register your interest.
Collections without a card reader
Cash collections lose money every year as fewer supporters carry any. Buying a terminal for every collector is rarely worth it for a handful of days a year, so the tin keeps coming out.
Point of sale giving removes the hardware from the problem. A volunteer signs in on their own phone, picks your campaign, and hands the phone to the supporter to tap:
- Tap to Pay on a standard phone, with no card reader to buy, ship or charge
- Contactless cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, the way supporters already pay
- Set one fixed amount for the day, or let supporters choose their own
- Gift Aid offered at the tap, and claimed for you afterwards
- Every donation reported by volunteer, campaign and day
Built for the street, the stand and the door
Volunteers join with a code
You share a connect code, your volunteer enters it, and they are collecting for your charity minutes later. Remove someone and their access stops at once.
The money is never theirs
Donations go straight to the charity, never through a volunteer's account. Every tap is recorded against the person who collected it for your own reporting.
Made to be handed over
The screen faces the donor: a large amount, one clear action, a buzz and a chime on success, and a brief pause before the next tap so nobody is charged twice.
Locked to the job
Lock a phone to one campaign and amount for an unattended stand, with a PIN to unlock, so a borrowed handset cannot wander off into other screens.
One set of books
Taps arrive in the same portal and the same payout as your text, web, plaque and terminal donations, with no separate reconciliation.
Needs a signal
Each donation is authorised as it happens, so the phone needs mobile data or wifi at the moment of the tap. Somewhere with no signal is a job for a tap plaque or a scheduled collection instead.
Point of sale FAQs
When will the point of sale app be available? +
It is in final testing and release is close. Register your interest through our contact page and we will tell you as soon as it is available, along with what your volunteers need to get going.
Do we need to buy card readers? +
No. That is the point of it: the phone is the reader. Supporters tap a contactless card, Apple Pay or Google Pay directly against a volunteer's phone.
Will it work on any phone? +
It needs a reasonably recent phone with the contactless hardware that Tap to Pay uses, and a mobile data or wifi connection. We will confirm the supported models when the app is released.
Does it work without a signal? +
No. Every donation is authorised at the moment of the tap, so the phone must be online. For places with no signal, a tap plaque or a QR code on printed material is the better tool.
Can volunteers collect money for themselves? +
No. Donations always go to the charity. A volunteer is only ever collecting on your behalf, and you can see who collected what.
Can we collect Gift Aid at the point of sale? +
Yes. The supporter can complete a Gift Aid declaration at the time of the donation, and DONATE manages the claim to HMRC afterwards.
