Research Shows DONATE™ Is 5× More Effective Than Cash Giving

A Shakespeare Schools Foundation comedy event demonstrates how contactless giving through DONATE™ generated five times more income than traditional cash collection from the same audience.

The Shakespeare Schools Foundation (SSF) organised its inaugural stand-up comedy event in June 2018 to support its nationwide youth programmes. The event provided a clear, real-world comparison between traditional cash donation methods and contactless giving through DONATE™.

The Results

Of the 370 attendees:

  • Cash donations yielded £103
  • Contactless giving via DONATE™ generated £515

The contactless method generated five times more income from the same audience, with an additional 27% of donors choosing the contactless option over cash.

How It Worked

SSF requested the tap+DONATE™ device, which the National Funding Scheme delivered within five days. The foundation integrated the unit creatively into the event - with the host promoting it as "The Tapper" and encouraging the audience to participate by passing the device around the auditorium.

"Not only did tap+DONATE™ allow us to reach donors that cash cannot reach but with less cash to handle we had fewer security concerns."

The dual benefit - more income and simpler cash management - made a compelling case for contactless giving.

Looking Ahead

Georgie Brehaut, SSF Events Manager, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the service:

"SSF are excited to develop its use of 'The Tapper' at events in the future providing its diverse audiences and range of stakeholders the option to give via contactless payment and not relying plainly on cash donations."

The Lesson for Charities

The SSF experience confirms what the data shows across the sector: as fewer people carry cash, contactless giving doesn't just replace cash - it generates significantly more income by reaching donors who would otherwise contribute nothing.

If your organisation runs events, tap+DONATE™ is one of the most impactful additions you can make to your fundraising toolkit.
