Fundraising events people actually join in

Audience votes at live events usually mean paper slips, buckets or a show of hands: slow to count, easy to doubt, and completely separate from the fundraising. The result gets totted up backstage while the audience waits, and the money is a different job again.

Voting on DONATE™ turns the vote itself into the donation. Set a price per vote, and the audience votes from their phones for the candidate they want to win. Every vote is counted the moment it lands, the leaderboard on the big screen moves in real time, and the fundraising total builds with the excitement:

  • Each candidate gets their own page, photo, story, code and QR code
  • Vote online in a few taps, or by text message
  • A live leaderboard and trend graph for the venue screen
  • Hide the scores for suspense, then reveal a winners' podium
  • Add judges' scores alongside the public vote, Strictly style
  • Run the whole night from your portal

Key Features

Every vote is a donation

Set a price per vote, from £1 to £40. Supporters buy as many votes as they like in one go, by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or a simple text message.

A live big screen

Put the leaderboard on the venue screen with a short link or QR code. Tally bars and a trend graph update in real time, and a dedicated display mode keeps it clean for the stage.

Suspense built in

Hide the running totals so nobody knows who is winning, then close the vote and reveal a winners' podium: gold, silver and bronze, with everyone celebrated.

Judges welcome

Add a judges' scorecard alongside the public vote, Strictly style. The final positions follow the combined ranking, and you stay in control of the reveal.

A page for every candidate

Photo, story, a unique code and a downloadable QR code for each candidate, so every act can rally their own supporters before and during the event.

Run it from your portal

Draft the event, open the vote, watch the live board, close and reveal, all from one screen. Set the voting window and it opens and closes itself.

Voting FAQs

How does vote-by-donation work?

You set a fixed price per vote and add your candidates, each with their own page and code. Supporters vote by paying that amount, online or by text, and can buy several votes at once. Votes are counted automatically the moment the payment lands, and the leaderboard updates in real time.

Can people vote by text message?

Yes. Each candidate has a keyword, and a text casts a vote at the fixed price, charged to the sender's phone bill. Supporters can cast several votes in one text, and text votes appear on the live leaderboard alongside online ones.

Can we hide the scores until the end?

Yes. Suspense mode hides the running totals from the audience while the vote is open (you still see them in your portal). When you close the vote, you reveal the result as a winners' podium.

Can judges decide the result?

You can add a judges' scorecard alongside the public vote, in the style of TV talent shows: the judges' scores and the public vote combine into one ranking, and the final positions follow it. Or run it on the public vote alone; the choice is yours per event.

What does a voting event cost?

There are no setup fees and no monthly subscription. You only pay when you raise money: votes are processed at our standard platform rates. See the pricing page for the full rate card.

Can we claim Gift Aid on votes?

Generally not. A vote buys something (a say in the result), so under HMRC's rules it usually doesn't qualify as a donation for Gift Aid. Plain donations to your campaigns are a different matter, and DONATE manages those claims automatically.
