Wallace Collection

Wallace Collection

The Wallace Collection is one of the world’s greatest collections of art, assembled by the first four Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, son of the 4th Marquess.

Displayed in the opulent yet intimate setting of Hertford House, the family’s London residence, are peerless Old Master paintings, unsurpassed 18th-century French decorative arts, and shining princely arms and armour. Our paintings collection includes iconic works by Frans Hals, Titian, and Canaletto, and in the Study are more pieces of Marie-Antoinette’s furniture than any other room in the world. We opened to the public in 1900, and today we welcome nearly 400,000 visitors a year, free of charge.

Lady Wallace’s gift, which became the Wallace Collection, remains one of the greatest ever single bequests of art treasures to a nation. Today we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help us raise £2 million every year to continue this inspiring legacy.
